Checking your skin regularly

Sun damage can take years to develop and even if you are careful to protect your skin now, if you have been sunburnt often in the past, particularly when you were a child, you might still have an increased risk of developing actinic keratosis which can be a marker for skin cancer, so it is a good idea to check your skin regularly.

Sun damage is not always easy to see so be sure to both LOOK and FEEL when you Check Your Skin for any unusual changes. Check Your Skin every month for any potential changes as finding and treating early will reduce the risk of a more serious conditions developing.

Sun damage related skin conditions are a growing problem. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Ireland in 15-44 year olds.

Every year there are more new cases of skin cancer in Ireland than breast and lung cancers combined.
